Modular, service based applications open new perspectives also when it comes to deployment. Modules (defining services) are by construction self-contained pieces of software providing new functionalities and capabilities to the platform, and they can deployed in a cloud of machines; we call this process provisioning to highlight the dynamic nature of such architectures.

The combined usage of on-demand servers (like Amazon EC2 virtual servers) with provisioning servers (like Apache Ace or Eclipse P2) allows companies to deploy applications in the cloud and seamlessly scale them when it is required.
